Shaving and showering
We regularly receive questions from our customers about what is best when it comes to shaving and showering. Do you have to shower before shaving? Or is it better to shower after shaving?
As we often say: 'You don't have to do anything!' Everyone has their own morning ritual and every skin is different. What works best for you depends on your personal preference and your skin and beard type. In this blog we have listed the advantages and disadvantages for you.
Should you shower before or after shaving?
What is the advantage of showering first and then shaving? The warm shower water opens the skin pores and makes beard hairs softer and softer. The softer the beard hairs, the easier it is to shave. And the smoother the shave. Afterwards you will also suffer less from razor burn. Compare it to the barber's hot towel in preparation for shaving. If you have stiff and crackly hard beard stubble, then showering first and then shaving is the best order for you.
What is the advantage of shaving first and then showering? The warm shower water soothes your skin after shaving. This order is best if you suffer from (very) dry skin. As you know, your skin consists of various layers. The outer layer of the skin is the so-called stratum corneum. This is an important protective layer. When you shower and clean before shaving, you rinse off part of this protective layer. The hot shower water can possibly dry out the skin. If you have dry skin, you want to prevent this. Especially if you still have to shave.
Do you have heavy beard growth and do you prefer to shave first and then shower? Then it can help to soften the beard hairs by thoroughly wetting your skin before shaving and applying a preshave oil or cream.
You can also shave while showering. There are men who shave while showering. This is of course an extremely efficient method. Of course you have to be careful. Because the razor is of course wet and slippery. You also need a good shaving mirror that has a special coating that prevents it from fogging up.
Finally, whichever method you prefer, it's important that you always take the time to shave yourself. Hasty shaving never leads to good results.
