Classic shaving is sustainable and environmentally friendly

Klassiek scheren is duurzaam en milieuvriendelijk - Manandshaving

Gentlemen, as you know about us: "You don't have to do anything at all." Nowadays everyone is full of sustainability: "We all have to live more sustainably and more environmentally friendly." Compared to the use of many other products around care, it is very sustainable in the classic way. Shave with a classic razor, shaving brush And a nice one shaving soap In a wooden bowl or a shaving cream In a metal pot is good for the environment. So everyone who shaves in the classic way is just doing well. Classical Natsscheren actually has the future.

What is sustainability in the field of shaving?

Look, don't shave is of course the most sustainable. We have to be honest about that. But most men find it nice to regularly shave nice and smooth and fresh. Natscheren is just tasty. And if you have a beard, the beard contours must also be shaved regularly. Which aspects during the morning ritual determine the degree of sustainability? We have listed it in this blog.

Where do my shaving products come from?

The less transport, the better for the environment. Fortunately, most of which are produced or products in Europe: England, Germany, France and Italy. Unfortunately, there are few top quality shaft brands that are made in the Netherlands and Belgium, such as Baume.be, Biolijf, Guardenza and the Scheermonik. There are of course a lot of beautiful artisan grasses from the USA, such as Stirling Soap Co and Zingari Man. But these brands must come from far.

You need raw materials for shaving products. Where do these raw materials come from? An important component for shaving soap is coconut oil. This oil provides a nice stable foam. For a good shaving soap we can't do without this oil. Shea butter is also widely used in shaving soaps and shaving creams. It also provides a stable foam and has a nourishing and caring effect. These components must be imported from distant abroad.

You also come across palm oil a lot in shaving soaps. There is much discussion about the sustainability of the regular palm oil. That is why various shaving brands no longer use palm oil, such as the Italian Saponificio Varesino.

Of course you need a shaving brush for wet shaving. Most shaving brushes are made in Germany, England, France and Italy. Unfortunately, the badger and synthetic hairs for the shaving brush must import the producers from China.

Many people have ethical objections to use a badger hair shaving brush. The badgers of course have no pleasant life in their cage. Shaving brushes with synthetic hairs are increasingly popular. However, there are also people who want to banish the plastic in the bathroom and use as little plastic as possible and prefer to have a natural product. Well, that way everything has its pros and cons of course.

Many safety razors and open razors are also made in Europe. The English Edwin Jagger has a factory in Sheffield. The razors of DOVO and Merkur are produced in the famous Solingen. The Muhle factory is in Stützengrün. The top quality open razors from Thiers-Issard are made in France. The various loose parts and raw materials, such as metal and wood, can of course come very well from outside Europe.

How long can I shave with my shaving product?

The longer you can use the same product, the more sustainable that is. Shaving once and then throwing away the razor is of course not sustainable. We regularly hear from our customers that they want to switch to a more environmentally friendly razor, such as the Safety Razor if it razor. A safety razor easily lasts 10 years or more. An open razor will last all your life if you regularly maintain it well.

Also a good one shaving brush Has a very long service life: 5 to 10 years. If you clean the shaving brush well after use and hang up in a holder, you will have long shaving pleasure from your shaving brush.

Is my shaving product recyclable?

The less waste, the better. A classic shaving soap in a metal or wooden bowl is more durable than a ready-made-clean-shaving foam in a bus. You can easily shave with a shaving soap for 3 to 4 months. If the shaving soap is finished you can possibly do a new refill in the same jar.

The loose cartridge razor blades of the well -known large razor brands are not sustainable. The blades contain metals and plastics. This makes the recycling practically not possible. Shaving and hupsakee in the trash a few times. The Double Edge razor blades consist of metal only. In waste processing, metals with a magnet are fished and reused.

How environmentally friendly are the components of my shaving product?

The less synthetic components, the more environmentally friendly. Many care products contain synthetic produced ingredients, such as parabens and mineral oils. Synthetic raw materials are not necessarily dangerous or bad, but many people prefer to have as many natural ingredients as possible, such as essential oils and vegetable or animal fats. Fortunately, we see that more and more traditional shaving products appear on the shaving market on the basis of natural raw materials, such as Meissner Tremonia, De Scheermonik, Le Pere Lucien and Stirling Soap Co.

The American shaving products in particular contain animal oils and fats, such as pork and beef fat. It is about the so -called sebaceous soaps. These shades are popular because of the excellent shaving properties, good protection and the caring effect during shaving. Many vegatarians or vegans among us will say: "I prefer not to have animal fats in the shaving product because of the animals and the environment." Many customers of ours consciously opt for shaving products based on vegetable oils and fats. In short, the choice is of course different for everyone and very personal.
