Top-5 double edge scheermesjes - Manandshaving

Popular razor blades

As you know, we started selling the double edge razor blades and the safety razor in 2009. In the beginning, this type of shaving system was not super popular. In recent years, more and more men are discovering it and switching from the cartridge multi-blade to the safety razor. More and more men are enthusiastic about the shaving properties. The razor is becoming so popular that even the well-known major razor brands have reintroduced the safety razor into the retail market. We have once again dug and dug through our sales database and put together a top 5 most popular razor blades.

Top 5 double edge razor blades

The DE razor is a worldwide universal shaving system: its shape and dimensions are standardized. There are dozens of different brands and they are produced in different countries and factories. All razor blades fit all safety razor heads.

The blade is clamped in the shaving head of the holder. This means it is firmly secured and cannot move back and forth while shaving. In the case of a threaded shaving head, the blade clamps in the shaving head by means of a screw connection between the shaving head and handle.

Very well-known are the razors with a so-called butterfly closure. You turn the dial in the handle, the shaving head pops open, you place the blade in and close the shaving head again. The advantage of this system is that you can change blades quickly and easily.

The combination of the alloy, coatings and grind of the blade ensures that it shaves perfectly and efficiently and feels comfortable on the skin. Most of us have normal beard growth. It is therefore not surprising that the most popular blades are suitable for normal beard growth. Based on our own experiences and the reviews of various users, we have made a classification with regard to quality, sharpness and shaving properties:

  • one ★ is mildly sharp;
  • two ★★ is sharp and;
  • three ★★★ means extremely sharp.

Using the handy 'Shaving property' filter in our webshop, you can easily and quickly select the right blade. For example, if you have a thin, light beard growth, select the mildly sharp (★) blades. If you have heavy beard growth or crackly hard beard stubble, you will benefit greatly from the extra sharp (★★★) razor blades.

1. Feather

Many novice safety razor wet shavers are initially a little hesitant about the Feather Hi Stainless Double Edge razor blades. We usually recommend starting with mild or medium sharp blades. After a few weeks of shaving you will be more experienced and you can switch to Feather with confidence. It is not without reason that this brand is very popular because it provides a smooth, efficient and pleasantly close shave.

These blades are extremely sharp (★★★) and are suitable for the experienced shaver with normal to heavy beard growth. These blades remain sharp for up to 7-10 shaving sessions.

The blades are made of stainless steel with a thin platinum coating. The advantage of stainless steel is that it hardly rusts at all. It is resistant to water and lime. In addition, it is more durable and stiffer than regular steel. Platinum is a precious metal, particularly durable and does not cause an allergic reaction.

The blades are produced in Japan by Feather Safety Razor Co Ltd. It comes packaged in a small plastic cartridge. The advantage of this packaging is that you can easily slide the blades out. After use, the used blades can be slid back in safely and conveniently.

2. Muhle

It is not surprising that the Muhle blades are popular. The German Muhle is a popular shaving brand of luxury razors and shaving brushes. When customers buy a Muhle safety razor, for example the popular R89, they usually buy a double edge blade from the same brand.
