What's in my beard oil?

Wat zit er in mijn baardolie? - Manandshaving

When do you need a beard oil?

If you believe your barber or the different beard brands, you should always lubricate your beard with beard oil . The more the better. That is of course partly nonsense. We regularly receive questions from our bearded customers: 'What do I really need for my beard?' It is also quite confusing because there is so much choice of different beard products, such as beard oil, beard balm, beard conditioner, etc.

You use a beard oil for 2 things:

  1. caring for the beard and the skin under the beard;
  2. styling the beard.

The skin under the beard can be a little irritated, especially in the beginning, such as red spots, itching and flaky dry skin. A beard oil prevents this a little bit. If you suffer from a dry or frizzy beard, you will also benefit greatly from an oil. A little bit will make it less frizzy. It is better to keep your beard in check and style it. Your beard also gets a natural fresh shine. The beard only becomes more beautiful and more beautiful. Do you have a nice long and full beard? Then use a beard oil, possibly in combination with a beard balm. Do not use too much beard oil. Your skin acts like a 'sponge'. Too much oil is no longer absorbed by the skin and sticks too much to your skin. And we don't want that.

What are the ingredients of a beard oil?

All beard oils consist of a mix of various essential vegetable oils. The scent of the product is determined by adding a blend of scented essential oils or a ready-to-use perfume oil. These perfume oils (parfum or fragrances) usually consist of synthetic fragrances. Popular and widely used essential oils include Sandalwood, Lavender, Mint and Eucalyptus.

We do not intend to provide a complete list here. The overview consists of the most common and important components.

Argan oil

Argan oil (Argania spinosa) comes from the fruits of the Argania spinosa tree. Argan oil contains a lot of fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamin E. It is well absorbed by the beard hairs. This makes the hair more flexible. It also provides a protective layer on the hair. Vitamin E (tocopherol) stimulates the skin's healing ability. This prevents skin irritations under your beard.

Jojoba oil

Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) oil is extracted from the seeds of the Simmondsia chinensis plant. It contains many antioxidants and vitamin E. It has a moisturizing effect, is easily absorbed by the skin and promotes silky soft skin. The chemical composition is very similar to the sebum of our skin. Jojoba oil is also added to the beard oil to make it last longer.

Grape seed oil

Grape seed oil (Vitis vinifera) contains Omega acids and antioxidants, such as vitamin E. It is a light oil and is quickly absorbed by the skin. This keeps the skin soft and supple. It ensures that your skin ages less quickly.

Almond oil

Almond oil (Prunus dulcis) is widely used in beard oil. It is packed with unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E, proteins and various minerals, such as magnesium, sodium and phosphorus. It regulates the moisture content of the skin and reduces skin irritations, such as dry or flaky skin.

Peach kernel oil

Peach kernel oil (Prunus persica) is a light, thin oil and contains many unsaturated fatty acids, such as linoleic acid. This oil is quickly absorbed by the skin and ensures that the skin feels nice and soft.

Castor oil

Castor oil is made from the fruit of the castor tree (Ricinus communis). This oil has been used since ancient times for many medicinal and skin care applications. It contains Ricinoleic acid (omega 9 fatty acid), omega 6 fatty acids and vitamin E. It attracts and retains water. This gives it a strong moisturizing and nourishing effect. Castor oil makes the beard hairs more flexible, making them less likely to break or damage. It supports natural hair growth and provides shine and volume. Your beard will shine beautifully and become fuller and fuller.

Bergamot oil

Bergamot oil comes from the citrus fruit Citrus bergamia. Bergamot oil is widely used as a fragrance oil in perfumes. It has a characteristic citrus scent and is therefore often used in beard oils.

Sandalwood oil

Sandalwood oil is extracted from the wood of the Santalum album tree. Sandalwood oil is widely used as a fragrance oil in perfumes. It is often added to beard oil to give the oil a wonderfully woody and masculine scent.

Linseed oil

Linseed oil is extracted from the seeds of oil flax (Linum usitatissimum). Flaxseed contains omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, vitamins B1 and B2, magnesium, potassium, zinc and calcium.

Avocado oil

Avocado oil (Persea gratissima) also contains a whole mix of vitamins: A, E and D. Something for everyone. The Palmitic acid in this oil ensures super soft skin under your beard. It is ideal for dry, sensitive and flaky skin.
