Should you shave before or after showering? Conclusion from shaving experts: right after showering. But why should you shave after showering?
First of all, good preparation for shaving involves cleansing the face to remove impurities and bacteria.
Secondly, wet shaving requires a lot of water. Water is the essential ingredient for producing shaving foam, protecting the skin, and softening the beard hairs. Beard hairs are the toughest hairs on the human body but also absorb water. The softer the hairs, the smoother and easier the razor can cut the hairs. It takes about 4 minutes for the hairs to become soft. You might as well spend those 4 minutes in the shower, right?
During the shower, you can also let the shaving brush soak in warm water. This will allow the shaving brush to produce a nice shaving foam more easily.
The main objection to shaving after showering is that the bathroom mirror fogs up and you can't see well while shaving.
In that case, there are two solutions:
- You buy a shaving mirror. These are often made of material or have a special coating that prevents fogging. Some are heated.
- For those who have a heater in their bathroom, direct it at the mirror while showering: there will be no condensation.
Still not convinced by the above? Do a few tests yourself: shave before showering one week and shave after showering the next week. Experience is the best teacher.
