Product information
The famous Belgian yellow/blue whetstone from the Ardennes is the whetstone for sharpening and maintaining the straight razor.
The whetstone is delivered in a luxury wooden box.
Usage
- Wet the whetstone
- Place the whetstone on a flat surface. Make sure the stone is stable.
- Use only the yellow top stone for sharpening
- Keep the razor blade flat (0 degrees) relative to the stropping surface
- Press the razor blade lightly on the whetstone
- Stroke the razor blade over the stone with a smooth motion
- Turn the razor blade over to sharpen the other side
- After sharpening, optionally remove the burr using the canvas side of the strop
- And optionally polish with the leather of the strop
Tip: stick a piece of tape over the back of the razor blade. This protects the back and prevents any scratches on the back.
Material
Belgian Blue Whetstone:
- Yellow Coticule top stone: 4000 - 8000 grit (grain)
- Blue base stone
The Ardennes Coticule is a natural product, so no stone is 100% identical. The grit rating is indicative and says little about the specific properties of the stone. The advantage compared to other whetstones is that the Belgian sharpening stone sharpens very finely and very quickly. No other whetstone has this combination.
